Developed in France and targeted towards the aspirational youth
African market, the TECNO Q1 is everything in a smart phone. It sports a
2.6-inch display at 480×320 pixels, has a 5-megapixel camera, 4Gb
built-in memory and 512 MB RAM. Like any other Android Smartphone, there
is Wi-Fi on board, as well as 3G. To cap it off, it is a dual-SIM
mobile.
Display
In terms of display, the TECNO beats all contenders. Its 2.6” display is bigger than Nokia (2.4”) and the Blackberry (2.44”), and is of a higher resolution than the two phones. Samsung’s display is of the same size.
Memory
The TECNO Q1 offers 4GB internal memory, and outguns other products in the series with a wide margin here. Like Samsung and BlackBery, Q1 offers 512 MB while Nokia offers just 64 MB. Of course, all the devices offer micro SD card slots, so are expandable.
Power
In a show of strength of this sort, processing power and RAM are vital to performance of the various devices. In terms of power, every product in the series except the Samsung sports a 1 Ghz processor, but the Samsung Galaxy Y Pro Duos offers an 832 MHz processor instead.
Camera
Interestingly, the TECNO Q1 trumps the others in the camera comparison as well. Against the Q1’s 5 megapixel camera, the best that the competition throws up is the Samsung’s 3.2 megapixel camera. Both the Asha and the Curve offer 2 megapixel cameras.
Meanwhile, at the launch of its latest smart phone series, TECNO P3, mobile phone maker TECNO disclosed plans to build a plant in Nigeria.
Vice President of TECNO group, Mr. Arif Chowdhury who made the disclosure last week in Lagos at the launch of the product said that “Nigeria is TECNO’s biggest market in terms of volume and Lagos will be the location of the plant because Lagos is not just the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria but also the economic capital of Africa.”
He added that the company was still waiting for right policies of government on duty structure for mobile phone import to finalize their plans in building the plant.
Also speaking on the proposed plant, the Public Relations Manager of TECNO, Boukali Mounir said: “We want to be seen as long term investors and we want to do more than selling phones. It is also a way of giving back to the society as the project will generate thousands of job opportunities for Nigerians,’ he said.
