Cripple Ordered Four Men To Rape Me – Victim Tells Benin Court

A 23-year-old lady (name withheld) on Friday told a Benin Chief Magistrate that a cripple ordered four men to rape her.
The victim told the court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Peter Edo-Asemota that the cripple, Saturday Enabulele, and the four men committed the offence on April 13.
The accused persons, including Enabulele, Moses Okoeki, Osasumwen Enina, Junior Odubu and one other person now at large, are facing a 12-count charge before the court.
They, however, pleaded not guilty.
The accused were charged with rape, forcefully having unlawful carnal knowledge without the consent of their victim, unlawful filming or recording of the assault.
Other charges are stealing the victims wallet containing money and phone, unlawfully and indecently assault, malicious damage of her pants, skirt and blouse, and obscene publication.
The offence contravened sections 516, 355, 451,357, 360, 390(9), 233(B) and 357 of the Criminal Code.
The prosecutor, Mrs Evelyn Okunrobo, had appealed to the court to listen to the rape victim’s experience.
The victim told the court that Enabulele was her friend’s lover, and that her friend took her to the cripple’s house to sleep since she had no accommodation.
She said that on the faithful day (April 13) on her way to work, the four accused stopped her and said Enabulele was calling her.
When she refused, they took her purse where the key to her working place was and was thus forced to follow them to see why Enabulele wanted to see her.
She said on getting to the house, the cripple accused her of severing the relationship between him and his girl friend.
“He directed that they should beat me up and drag me into the room; the four accused persons tore my pant, blouse and raped me while Enabulele ordered who takes turn as well as filmed the incident with his phone,“ she said.
She said that after raping her, Enabulele ordered her to go and take her bath, then gave her his shirt to wear, and said that his boys would rape her for one week before releasing her.
She said even before the rape started, the landlord had begged him to leave her, but the cripple refused.
She tricked them by going through the bathroom where she jumped through a fence and ran away.
The cloths, purse, Enabulele’s phones and shirt were tendered as exhibits in the court.
Mrs Isaac Irene, the Investigation Police Officer in charge of the case at Textile-mill police station, testified that the accused had made confessional statements.
Enabulele’s statement was tendered as another exhibit.
Mr Jude Uyi-Ediaye, the counsel to the accused, however, objected to the tendering of their statements because they were forced to make the statements.
Chief Magistrate Peter Edo-Asemota adjourned the case to May 23 for hearing.
